The History of Carcraig Classics...
The Scottish based "Fordell Flies" was founded by Bob Wright in 1992 to utilize 30 years of fly tying experience and a great interest in Nineteenth Century salmon flies. This interest was stimulated in 1965 by an invitation to visit Megan Boyd, one of the greatest salmon fly dressers of the time, at her house at Kintradwell, by Brora. She demonstrated the dressing of a Jock Scott and showed the amazing range of feathers and materials required to dress these old patterns. It was so fascinating that Bob was determined to learn the techniques involved.
Now over forty years later (a little greyer!) - and having accumulated on the way a superb library of all the important books on salmon flies - each book having been studied in detail - the business has expanded to cover every aspect of salmon flies.
The renamed company, "Carcraig Classics", has expanded steadily since 1992. The frames have changed radically and the range of work undertaken has diversified to cover a wide range of standard frames; customized frames made to customers requirements; framed classic style salmon flies designed in corporate colours for promotional work etc; Classic style salmon flies in family tartan colours; modern & ancient flies for fishing and an expanding market mounting and framing antique salmon flies for preservation and display.
